What happened
Acumen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: ABOS) held $78.6 million in cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities at Sept. 30. That is down $31.6 million from June 30. The company expects the money to fund current clinical and operational activities into early 2027.
It expects topline results from its Phase 2 Alzheimer's study, ALTITUDE-AD, in November.
The third-quarter net loss was $25.4 million, compared with $26.5 million a year earlier. Loss from operations was $25.8 million, down from $26.5 million. The company said the lower operating loss came from decreased research and development expenses.
Chief Executive Daniel O'Connell said the company continued preparing for the readout. He said he remains encouraged by the potential for sabirnetug to become a treatment of choice.

Where the quarter's loss came from
Lower trial costs drove the narrower loss. Research and development expenses were $21.1 million, compared with $22.0 million in the third quarter of 2025.
The company said the decrease was mainly from lower manufacturing and materials costs and lower CRO costs, both tied to ALTITUDE-AD. More spending on its Enhanced Brain Delivery (EBD) program offset part of the decline.
General and administrative expenses were $4.7 million, up from $4.5 million a year earlier.
Net loss was below operating loss because of $0.44 million of total other income. That includes a $0.65 million gain from a change in the fair value of embedded derivatives, a one-time item rather than operating improvement. Interest income fell to $0.81 million from $1.64 million a year earlier.

How the cash balance moved
The balance fell 28.7% from $110.2 million at June 30. Outside money helped earlier in the year. The nine-month cash flow statement shows $35.4 million in net proceeds from a private placement and $4.99 million of debt repayments. Net cash used in operating activities was $68.9 million, compared with $96.4 million in the first nine months of 2025.
Shares outstanding were 72.3 million at Sept. 30, up 19.4% from 60.6 million at Dec. 31, 2025.
Debt is coming due sooner. The balance sheet lists $20.4 million as short-term debt at Sept. 30, up from $8.77 million at Dec. 31, 2025. Long-term debt fell to $5.87 million from $22.4 million.
Why it matters
OptimistFi has argued that Acumen creates value only if its Alzheimer's approach produces differentiated clinical evidence before cash burn forces unattractive financing. Spending eased this quarter, but the stated runway is still measured in months. The quarter pulls the case in two directions.
ALTITUDE-AD results are still pending, and management says cash supports current activities only into early 2027. The EBD IND filing is targeted for mid-2027, after that date.
What the November readout covers
ALTITUDE-AD is a three-arm study of sabirnetug in 542 participants, about 180 per arm. It compares two intravenous doses, 35 mg/kg and 50 mg/kg every four weeks, with placebo over an 18-month double-blind period.
The company's corporate presentation calls the Phase 2 a registration-quality study. Sabirnetug has FDA Fast Track designation for early Alzheimer's disease.
Topline results are expected to include the iADRS, the primary efficacy endpoint. They should also cover secondary endpoints such as CDR-SB, safety measures including rates of amyloid-related imaging abnormalities (ARIA), and key biomarkers.
What's next
The next dated event is the ALTITUDE-AD topline release in November 2026. Evidence that sabirnetug separates from placebo on iADRS would strengthen the case. A miss on the primary endpoint would leave a company that says its cash lasts only into early 2027.
The company is targeting an IND filing for the lead clinical candidate in its EBD program in mid-2027.
