What happened
Douglas Dynamics, Inc. (NYSE: PLOW) said third-quarter net income rose 166% to $21.2 million from $8.0 million a year earlier. In its Nov. 2 earnings release, the company also raised the low end of its 2026 ranges for net sales, Adjusted EBITDA and adjusted diluted EPS.
Profit grew far faster than sales. That margin recovery is what OptimistFi's view of the company depends on. Net sales climbed 35% to $218.0 million from $162.1 million in the third quarter of 2025. Diluted EPS was $0.89 against $0.33.
Adjusted EBITDA rose 89% to $37.9 million from $20.1 million. The Adjusted EBITDA margin widened to 17.4% from 12.4%. Gross margin rose to 27.4% from 23.5%, a gain of 3.9 percentage points by OptimistFi's calculation.

Attachments carries the quarter
Work Truck Attachments sells snow and ice control equipment under the FISHER, SNOWEX and WESTERN brands. It produced the sharpest gains. Segment net sales rose 78% to $121.5 million from $68.1 million.
The company credits strong preseason demand and good operational execution, which led to higher throughput. It also credits Venco Venturo, which it acquired in 2025. So not all of the sales growth comes from existing product lines.
Segment Adjusted EBITDA rose 188% to $30.1 million. The margin increased 945 basis points to 24.8%. The company points to higher throughput, product mix and the timing of shipments between the second and third quarters.
That timing matters. Preseason shipments split close to 50% and 50% between the two quarters, compared with 60% and 40% in 2025. Still, the nine-month segment margin was 23.6% against 19.9% a year earlier, so the gain is not only a one-quarter shift.

Solutions grows sales but loses margin
Work Truck Solutions is the up-fit segment that includes the HENDERSON and DEJANA brands. Its net sales grew 3% to $96.5 million from $94.0 million. Adjusted EBITDA fell to $7.8 million from $9.6 million. The margin dropped to 8.1% from 10.2%, a decline of 2.1 percentage points.
The company says steady municipal demand helped offset inconsistent commercial demand, but the commercial weakness has hurt profit. It expects to open a new Ohio facility in the coming weeks, part of investments to expand capacity for municipal demand.
Why it matters
OptimistFi has argued that Douglas Dynamics works if its snow-and-ice brands and dealer channel turn volatile winter replacement cycles into high-cash-margin sales. The gains must also hold against lower-margin work-truck mix and cost inflation. The quarter supports the margin half of that view. Margins widened while the higher-margin Attachments segment grew fastest.
The Solutions result shows the mix risk is real. That lower-margin segment saw its margin slip even as sales rose.
The cash half is weaker so far. Net cash used in operating activities rose by $26.3 million to $47.5 million in the first nine months. The company ties this to increased working capital. Accounts receivable stood at $217.8 million on Sept. 30 against $97.6 million at Dec. 31, 2025. Short-term borrowings were $96.0 million against $5.0 million.
What's next
Management hosts a conference call on Nov. 3 at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time. The new low ends are $770 million for net sales, $123 million for Adjusted EBITDA and $3.00 for adjusted diluted EPS. The high ends are unchanged at $805 million, $135 million and $3.40.
The outlook assumes average snowfall in core markets in the fourth quarter. Against nine-month net sales of $570.5 million, the range implies fourth-quarter net sales of $199.5 million to $234.5 million by OptimistFi's calculation.
The release warns that the timing and severity of winter weather influence fourth-quarter Attachments results and can create meaningful variability in year-end results. A fourth quarter inside or above the implied range would show the third-quarter margins were not only shipment timing. A quarter below it would weaken the case.
